2001 International Mr. Leather Contest


CHICAGO - Stefan Muellen, Bavarian Mr. Leather 2001, was chosen International Mr. Leather 2001 last night over a field of 63 Contests from 7 countries Stefan is sponsored by MLC Munchen And Spexter Erotic. Store of Munich, Bavaria, Germany He is 37 years old and Is a Coordinating Manager at Nuernberg based Sebald Druck and Verlag. Since 1989, Stefan has co-organized gay events, benefits, fund-raisers and dress code events throughout Baveria. He coached the Nuerbgerg gay volleyball team to win the gold at the 1996 Eurogames in Berlin. He is the co-manager for the Nuernberg leather meetings. As International Mr. Leather 2001, Stefan will travel extensively as he represents the Leather community for the next year.

Darrell Moyers, Mr. DC Eagle 2001., was selected as first runner-up.- sponsored by DC Eagle in Washington. DC Darrell is 33 years old and is a Technical Trainer. Capturing the second runner-up position is Houston Davenport, Mr. San Francisco Leather 2001 sponsored by The Powerhouse in San Francisco CA. Houston is 41 years old and is an Independent Certified Sign

Language interpreter.

Contestants are judged on many criteria, including community involvement, speech, presentation. and overall presence. Judges included: Thorn Dornbkowski, Chief Judge for the past 10 years; Jack McGeorge. Co-Founder and current President of Black Rose; Bob Pesce Board Member for GMSMA; Philip C. Rubin, International Mr. Deaf Leather 1991; Jim Raymond, American Leatherman 1997; Jill Carter, International Ms. Leather 1996; Mike Taylor International Mr. Leather 2000; Laurie Lane, current secretary of Melbourne Leather Pride Association: and Mr. Marcus Hernandez. IML Judge Emeritus.

This year's International Mr. Hoot Black winner is Paksen. sponsored by Centaur Motorcycle Club of Virginia. First runner-up is Arthur Funni from Trident International/Laws Leather/Tool Shed/Crossover Bar, and second runner-up was Michael Lanzini from Club Blue.

This years contest was co-emceed by Tom Stice, Southeast Drummer 1998 and International Slave 1995, and Joe Gallagher, International Mr. Leather 1996. Entertainment was provided by Grammy Winner Ms. Thelma Houston.

The Palmer House Hilton's 1600 rooms were completely booked for the weekend. Over 900 packages were sold and over 2000 leatherfolk attended the Contest at the Congress Theater. The Leather Market included 152 venders. The Leather Archives and Museum's DeBlase - Charles Art sale was a huge success. People were thrilled to see this famous original artwork in person.

The 24th International Mr Leather Contest will be held on Memorial Day Weekend, May 23 -27, 2002, next year in our new host hotel, The Hyatt Regency Chicago located in downtown Chicago IML events will start on Thursday May 23rd.
